Hall of Honor
This organization shall be known as the Garrett-Keyser-Butler School's Distinguished Alumni Hall of Honor.
The purpose of the GKB Distinguished Alumni Hall of Honor is:
*To recognize and honor those graduates, living and deceased, who have brought honor to the school through exemplary actions and achievements
*To provide present-day students with role models who will help the students find identity with the past and establish goals for the future
The Hall of Honor Committee shall be composed of six (6# GHS alumni who will serve an unlimited term. From the six committee members, a chairperson and secretary will be elected annually. A GKB administrator will serve as a de facto member.
Whenever a vacancy on the committee occurs, a replacement will be recommended by the committee and approved by the school board.
The committee shall be responsible for:
*Screening, researching, and selecting potential nominees
*Notifying the administration of the final selections before May
*Planning the induction program which will be held at the annual Alumni reunion
*Notifying and inviting the inductees
*Working with administrators to determining type of awards to be given and suitable location for display
*Writing a biography and inscription for plaques
*Carrying out those other activities deemed necessary to promote the GKB Hall of Honor
Criteria for Selection
All honorees shall be a graduate of Garrett High School.
A period of ten #10# years must have elapsed between graduation and eligibility for induction into the Garrett-Keyser-Butler School's Hall of Honor.
A recipient shall be selected based on the impact or contribution he/she has made in one of the following areas:
*Civic/Patriotic Service - includes Olympians, distinguished war veterans, government officials, etc.
*Humanitarian - includes volunteer service and philanthropy
*Professional - includes work in education, medicine, the arts, engineering, religion, business, etc.
Any individual, excluding committee members, may nominate an unlimited number of alumni.
The nomination forms need to be completed and submitted to GKB Superintendent's Office between July 21 and December 31 prior to the recognition year.
Nominations for those persons not selected for induction into the Hall of Honor shall remain active and eligible for Hall of Honor selection for a period of three years after the initial presentation of the nomination to the Hall of Honor Committee.
The committee shall acknowledge receipt of each Nomination Form by sending a letter to the person presenting the nomination.
Nominees whose credentials do not meet the selection criteria or are not fully documented are not considered eligible. Their nominator shall be contacted and informed accordingly.
The initial induction will consist of up to five #5# honorees. The second year of induction will also consist of up to five #5# honorees. Thereafter, the number of honorees inducted will not exceed three #3#.
Copies of the nomination documents shall be distributed to each member prior to the first scheduled meeting.
The chairperson shall designate a date, time, and place to meet.
Each committee member is expected to attend and participate in the discussion and voting. The chairperson shall present each nominee individually. Discussion will be held after each nominee is presented. The nominator or the nominee shall not be present at the time of discussion and voting.
A nominee will be rated in four categories:
*Professional/Career Positions held
*Contributions to the community/state/country
A nominee must receive at least 75% of the total points to be considered for induction into the Hall of Honor.
The chairperson shall inform each nominee #or his/her family) of the selection into the Hall of Honor. Copies of the letters of selection and rejection shall be sent to the nominators.
All rating sheets remain the property of GKB and will be kept confidential.
The honoree or nominator is responsible for the following by June 1 of the induction year:
*Review biography and plaque inscription and call Superintendent's Office for additions/corrections
*Submit an 11" x 14" black and white photograph (bust shot) to the Superintendent's Office
